And if We had made him an Angel, certainly We (would) have made a man, and certainly We (would) have to them what they are obscuring.

And (even] if We had appointed an angel as Our message-bearer, We would certainly have made him [appear as] a man - and thus We would only have confused them in the same way as they are now confusing themselves
Had we appointed him (Our messenger) an angel, We assuredly had made him (as) a man (that he might speak to men); and (thus) obscured for them (the truth) they (now) obscure
If We had made it an angel, We should have sent him as a man, and We should certainly have caused them confusion in a matter which they have already covered with confusion
Yet if We were to send an angel down, the matter would be settled; then they would no longer be allowed to wait. We made him into an angel, We would have made him a man a swell, to confuse them just as they confuse themselves.
and, If We had sent an angel, We would have certainly made him appear as a man, and thus We would have only confused them in the same way as they are now confusing themselves.
and had We appointed him an angel, We would have made him in a human form, and We would have certainly caused confusion to them in what they are already confused.
Even if We had sent down an angel as messenger he would have appeared in the garb of a man and filled them with confusion, like the one they are filled with
Had We appointed an angel (as Our Messenger) We would surely have made him (since he would have to guide humankind in all aspects of life, in the form of) a man, and thus We would have confused for them what they themselves are confusing
And had We made him an angel, We would have surely made him a man, and We would have surely confounded them in regard to [the truth] that they confound
And had We appointed an angel, We would have had to send him in the form of a man too (that he may speak to men) and this would have made perplexing for them that which they deem perplexing now
Were We to have made him (Our Messenger) an angel, We would have made him resemble a human being and they would have again complained that the matter was as confusing to them as it is to them now
If We sent an angel to them, We would have sent him in the form of a man (so that he could live with them and speak to them), and the truth would remain obscure as it is to them now
And indeed, if We had made an angel as it (the Sign), We should have sent him as a man, and (then) We would certainly have caused confusion for them in a matter in which they are already full of confusion
and if We had sent an angel, We would have certainly sent him in a human form and thus involved them in the same confusion as they are in at this time
Dr. Munir Munshey
If We had sent down an angel, We would have sent him as a human. Thus, they would have had doubts again, just like they do now
Dr. Kamal Omar
And had We made him (that is, the one who is to be appointed a Messenger to mankind) an angel, indeed We would have made him (appear as) a man, and certainly, We would have caused them confusion in the matter which they have covered with confusion (because an angel when he appears to an ordinary person he appears, as a man and not in his real angelic form)
Had We appointed an angel, We would have sent him down in the form of a man - and thus We would have caused them the same doubt which they now entertain
Ali Bakhtiari Nejad
If We had made him an angel, We would have certainly made him as a man, and We would have confused for them what is already confusing
And if We had sent an angel, We would have sent it in an image of a human being. And We would have then further confused them in a matter which they were already confused
Just as We could have made the Messenger an angel, We could equally have made the angel appear as a man, thus confusing them with their own attempt to create confusion
Besides, if I had sent an angel [as My Prophet], I would have sent clothed like a man [so that they could see it] and then they would be more confused [as to who is this man who claims to be an angel?]
Faridul Haque
And had we appointed an angel as a Prophet, We would still have made him as a man and would keep them in the same doubt, as they are now in
Hasan Al-Fatih Qaribullah
If We had made him an angel, We would have given him the resemblance of a man, and would have as such confused them with that in which they are already confused
And if WE had appointed as Messenger an angel, WE would have made him appear as a man; and thus WE would have caused to be confused to them that which they are themselves confusing
And had We appointed him (-this Messenger) from among the angels. We would surely have made him (appear as) a man and (even in that case) We would have obscured that which they are themselves obscuring now
And if We had made the Messenger an angel, even then We would have made him (the form of) a man, and (even in that case) We would have put them in the same doubt which they are (already) in (i.e., confused over his physical appearance, they would say: ‘He is a human being like us.’
And had We appointed him an angel, We indeed would have made him a man, and We would have certainly caused them confusion in a matter which they have already covered with confusion (i.e. the Message of Prophet Muhammad SAW)
And if We had appointed as Messenger an angel, We would have made him appear as a man; and thus We would have caused to be confused to them that which they are themselves confusing
And if we had appointed an angel, we should certainly have appointed one in the form of a man, and we should have clothed him before them in garments like their own
And even if We had appointed an angel as Our messenger, We would certainly have made him [appear as] a man, and thus We would have confused them just as they are now confusing themselves.
If We had made Him (the Rasul of Allah saw) an angel (for you to see) We would still have made him in the form of a man to make them fall into the same doubt-dilemma that they are in now (whereupon they would have said, “he is just a man like us”).
Sayyed Abbas Sadr-Ameli
And had We appointed him (Our Messenger) an angel, We would certainly have made him as a man, and We would certainly have made confused to them what they (now) make confused
Al-muntakhab fi tafsir al-Qur'an al-Karim
And if We had sent an angel as a Messenger or to companion Our human Messenger, We would have disguised him as a man, and there one disorder would be aggravated by another; they would not believe in him either, and a fallacious mode of reasoning would be created more than ever; they would not know whether to use the premise to prove the conclusion or to use the conclusion to prove the premise - a vicious circle
And had We made an angel (Our messenger), We would have made him a man (so that he could be seen and heard delivering the message) and (thus) We would have (further) confused them (in a matter) in which they are already confused.
